Yesterday, Wednesday 26th June was an emotional day in Scoil an Linbh Íosa as the boys and girls of sixth class bid a fond farewell to the school in which they have spent the last eight years of their lives in. On a glorious day in Prosperous, the class of 2019 said goodbye to their past teachers and the other students with so many happy memories.
The children had been busy preparing for their graduation mass for some time by perfecting prayers, readings and gifts as well as their end of year song which was sure to impress all who would hear it.
At 11.15 a.m. the entire school were present in the Church of our Lady & St. Joseph to celebrate the end of another school year while also being there to wish our oldest pupils the very best in their futures. Once the mass had finished, Ms. Hetherton made a speech to thank many people. Daphne and Melanie Casey were also with us on the day to present the FRESH awards which are in memory of our dear friend Kathy Casey. Ms. Hetherton also wished Fr. Bill all the best as he makes the move to Rathangan to do his good work for the people in that parish. He was also presented with a gift by both the youngest and oldest pupil of the school to show our appreciation for all he has done for us.
The 6th class students were called up one by one to the altar and were presented with a memento before taking their places to sing their final song - 'Once I was in Primary School' an adaptation of Lucas Graham's Once I was 7 Years old. It's safe to say that many people, including teachers and parents may have shed a tear at this wonderfully meaningful song. They received a rapturous applause and spent some time taking photos with their friends, teachers and parents.

Once back to the school, the children went to lunch for the last time. They returned to the classroom and got their shirts signed by each other and their teachers. This is something that will cherish for years to come. They were then surprised by a huge pizza delivery from apache which they enjoyed in beaming sun in the courtyard. To cool off, they each had a twister before we headed to the astro for some game time. For the last part of the day, they were allowed to visit other classrooms to say their good byes and to get some more signatures. They returned to their own classrooms, packed their bags and received a wonderful response as they left Scoil an Linbh Íosa by both parents and students.
We hope they have happy memories from the last 8 years that they will remember fondly for the years to come. We wish you every success and happiness on the next stage of your life and hope to see you all for a visit next year! Well done to the class of 2019!
