Last week, children from our Confirmation Classes were given the opportunity to participate in a special Advent edition of the iCatholic Showcase. The show features the children making Advent wreaths, discussion around Christmas Cribs and highlights some special Christmas gifts from TrĂ³caire. Have a look at First Class programming robots on their iPads. Here is some footage of Second Class from Wednesday. Our first basketball league match saw us face Scoil Uí Riada, Kilcock, at home. Both boys and girls teams rose to the challenge and displayed great skill.
The boys were first up. It was a close game with two well matched teams but our boys edged ahead and overcame Kilcock 14 - 10. While all shots weren't on target, we showed great pace & pride to come out on top in the end. The girls match followed in what was a solid display of skill. We got off to a flying start but Kilcock had some experienced club players who outmatched us. We dug deep however and persevered scoring some terrific shots. Despite a fine performance, Kilcock came out victors on a scoreline of 24 - 34. Both teams will have to up their game for our next away outing to Caragh. We expect a full turnout at training this week. It will be our second league match and will decide our fate for after-Christmas fixtures. We live in a world surrounded by technology. We know that whatever field our children choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and less students are studying it than a decade ago. That’s why our entire school is joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 8-14). Last year, 15 million students tried computer science in one week. This year, we're joining students worldwide to reach 100 million students! Our Hour of Code is a statement that Scoil an Linbh Íosa is ready to teach these foundational 21st century skills. Follow this link to find out more - http://code.org/learn |
