Ms. Gilbert's 6th class spent a sunny afternoon in our school garden planting oak and birch trees under the careful guidance of our amazing school caretaker Gerry, who takes great care of our school garden and all the children. He showed the children how to plant the trees and the children got a chance to plant some trees of their own. These trees will stand in our school for years to come and will be a great legacy for the children to leave behind them. They also planted strawberry plants and we hope that they will have fruit for us to enjoy in June. We had a very busy Friday in Ms Wadding’s sixth class this week. We are currently learning about the 1916 Easter Rising and the aftermath which resulted in the War of Independence. We were extremely lucky that our own Emily Cullen was kindly allowed to bring in her Dad’s old medals from this historic time. We were fortunate to see replica medals from 1916, the War of Independence and also badges that were awarded to specific groups during this time such as Cumann and mBan and the Cork Brigade. The class were also super excited to watch the first part of the film ‘Michael Collins’ which we will be finishing next week. Ms. Gilbert's 6th class has been busy over the last few weeks in school. They have just completed their projects on Antarctica and Polar Exploration. They have been busy learning about 'The Easter Rising' in History. They have been learning about smoking in SPHE and they have recreated a few of the artist Banksy's pieces in Art. We would like to say huge congratulations to our very own Ruarí Fitzpatrick who won a medal in the Virtual Special Olympics competition this year! Everyone in 6th Class is so proud of you!
