Our Last term in Mr. Geaney's Classroom

27/6/2019

What a busy time we’ve had in sixth class and in particular for our last term in sixth class and our last term in Primary school. Seeing as we graduated yesterday, it is the perfect time to look back on all that we have created, worked at and achieved over the past couple of months.

Once we had our standardised testing done, it was time to enjoy some fun activities. We decided to bring our maths outside for a change and completed a maths trail of the main yard. We had great fun completing this trail and we learned lots of new information.
We have become somewhat experts at tag rugby and have been busy learning the skills that make an excellent player. Word filtered around the school that we were doing a great job so Ms. Dunne asked sixth class if they would teach her fourth class how the play. The sixth class set up three stations and taught the basic skills to the fourth class students. It was wonderful to see the leadership from the sixth class and feedback from the fourth class students suggest that they were excellent teachers!
Also part of our PE curriculum was orienteering. We did some fun orienteering activities in the hall where we had to work in groups with our friends to solve the problems. Check us out below!
We love active week in 6th class and this year was no change. On the run up to active week we partook in the move it morning every morning from 8.45 a.m. – 9.05 a.m. We did so many different activities and had great fun. We also had a brilliant active week. Check out the blog on active week on our news feed!
During active week we were asked to organise the junior sports day because of our excellent work with the daily mile. We were privileged to be asked and we took the role very seriously. We were delighted to get such praise from the teachers and as a reward we visited spar for some ice cream. It was great to be rewarded for our efforts.
We have loved art this year. One of our favourite art pieces was Tin foil embossing where we used wool, glue, tin foil and sharpies. Check out our creations below.
Another really fun activity at the end of the year was using the Lego WeDO sets. Mr. Geaney got the sets from Kildare Education Centre and we had great fun creating and using these STEM pieces. Check out the pictures and some videos of them in action below.
Congratulations to this wonderful sixth class group on their graduation. They were super all year long and I wish them every happiness into the future – Mr. Geaney

Our Sixth Class School Tour

17/6/2019

What a wonderful school tour we had last Thursday, 13th June. The tradition of the sixth class tour visiting Avon Rí changed slightly this year. CP Adventures have moved their adventure centre to the grounds of Russborough House just a couple of miles up the road form Avon Rí.

Our day started with a briefing and the children headed off in the groups to begin their exciting day. The activities they undertook included Archery, Rock Climbing, Low Rope obstacles courses, orienteering and puzzle making. All of these activities occurred before lunch time. The children sat around the fire pit and ate their lunches together before being bussed a couple of miles down the road to Blessington lake to complete a number of water activities. There was water rafting, kayaking, swimming and water games. This was by far the children's most favoured activity of the day and despite the cold temperatures they had a smile on their faces from beginning to end.

There were a lot of tired children and teachers on the bus journey home. The signs of great day!

Teddy Bear's Picnic with our Infant Partners!

11/6/2019

Today, we accompanied our shared reading partners from Junior Infants on a teddy bear's picnic to Gerry's garden. We all brought in a teddy from home and we collecting our Junior Infants. They were very excited!

We walked and chatted to the garden. We left our bags and teddies to one side and enjoyed some fun games together. We ate lunch together and shared some treats before departing again. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day and was a nice way to celebrate all the excellent reading we've been doing together all year.

A big thank you to Gerry, our caretaker for letting us have our picnic in his wonderful garden! We had a great time!
