Without a doubt, there are some budding electricians in sixth class!
The children in Mr. Geaney's sixth class were busy this week with everything electricity related. As part of our science study, we had to investigate the topic of electricity. We had the opportunity to research the history of Thomas Edison using computers, delve into the history of electricity itself while answering some questions and designing posters to display around the school warning other pupils of the dangers of electricity. However, our favourite had to be working with circuits. We learned that to make a circuit we needed a full loop with no breaks. Once we got into the swing of it we were able to make a lightbulb light, introduce switches to turn it on and off, make a propeller turn and make a buzzer sound. Without a doubt, there are some budding electricians in sixth class! The children of sixth class have been busy taking on the role of the teacher over the previous number of weeks. Each student in sixth have been paired up with a Junior Infant for a specific purpose. The children spend over half an hour each week reading to their budding partners. This is a highly anticipated event each week with huge benefits for both the sixth and junior infant pupils. The sixth class pupils have the ability to practice their reading skills while the junior infants are exposed to more literature and they enjoy spending time with their new friends from the upper end of the school. Below are some pictures of the initiative taking place.
