Like always, we've been doing a lot of work on our SESE History topic of the month 'The Romans'. The children made Power Points and have been researching Rome, soldiers and their armour and they also looked at chariots, weapons among other areas of interest and created some posters for our display! We listened to the story of Romulus & Remus also and created a real life comic strip which is on display outside our classroom! In maths, we were studying a quite difficult topic - money. We worked very hard throughout the week on our topic and were rewarded with money stations on the Friday as a fun way on consolidating our learning. In the stations, we used chrome books and opened the Tesco website to research different items which packs of various sizes were the best value. We figured out some simple word problem cards and noted our results and we also played some opponent games that required speed and accuracy to work out problems. What an enjoyable way to revise our maths knowledge! We love Christmas time because of all the lovely art work we are able to complete in class. Our classroom and the corridors outside our classroom are awash with beautiful art pieces. We also constructed some snowman door stoppers using socks and rice. The children really enjoyed this activity and i'm sure these snowman are keeping a lot of doors open in various homes! Our art work isn't just confined to the walls of inside and outside our classroom but this year we also used our windows as another area to display some art. Orla, our SNA drew some amazing images on our windows related to Christmas - Reindeer, pudding, crackers, presents, the Manger and many more. We painted these images onto our windows and the results are amazing. I'm sure if you're passing by Prosperous school you can see our creations too! Our PE this year so far has focused on the Games strand of the curriculum. We've completed basketball, soccer, football and unihoc and are pros. To finish one our final PE lessons before the new year we changed up our usual routine and did some circuits. 13 stations were placed around the hall area and the children split up into groups of twos or threes to workout together. The stations varied from burpees, tricep dips and planks to shuttle sprints, star jumps, squats and toe taps among many others. We really enjoyed these stations and we impressed Mr. Geaney so much that we were surprised with a homework pass for everyone in the classroom. Well done everyone! Lastly, to finish the term in style before Christmas, we put on our own show for our Junior Infant reading partners. Over two weeks of rehearsing, prop making and script alterations led to a wonderful display of dramatics in our classroom today. Our scripts were 'Bob the goofy reindeer', 'Holiday high jinks' and 'Not the night before Christmas'. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all the infants that came to see it. We finished our play with the popular song 'I wish is could be Christmas.' Merry Christmas everyone!! Comments are closed.
