It has been a busy first term here in Ms Smyth's 6th Class. In October we were delighted to be invited to St Farnan's Post Primary School where we participated in a STEM workshop with the transition years. We constructed and raced a battery operated car and launched a rocket. We were given a great insight into the fun and learning that awaits us next year in Secondary School. We have had a great term getting to know our Junior Infant partners during our Shared Reading sessions and we were delighted to partner them on our Annual Witch and Wizard Walk for Hallowe'en. It was a very significant event for both classes, 6th Class were completing the walk for their 8th and final time and Junior Infants were just starting out on their first walk of many! For National Tree Week this year we studied the Birch Tree and learned a lot about the Downy Birch and Silver Birch in Ireland. We have also been learning about life in Ancient Rome and have studied the various causes, effects and possible solutions to the problem of Climate Change on our planet during our SESE lessons. In PE we have focussed on the Curriculum Strand of Games this term. We have enjoyed playing Basketball, Benchball, Soccer, Uni hockey and Tennis. Teamwork has been an important aspect of our work in PE this term. We were also lucky enough to get a dry, sunny day in December to go to the Prosperous tennis courts to put our serving, forehand and backhand skills into practice. At the moment we are very busy getting all of our work finished before the Christmas holidays and revising for our Christmas tests. We have still found time, however, to complete some Christmas artwork to brighten up our classroom. We had great fun today filling our old socks with rice to make our snowmen doorstops. We have been working hard and have definitely earned our two weeks Christmas holidays! We will come back in January feeling refreshed and ready for the new term ahead! Comments are closed.
