Ms. Lowe's class enjoyed learning about another country. We were envious of their warm climate but relieved we don't have to eat the national dish - cuy. Cuy is guinea pig and is considered a delicacy in Peru. Below are some of our celebrations of St. Patrick's Day and Seachtain na Gaeilge. On Monday 4th March, 3rd class started the day with an author visit. From the offset, self published author Marguerite Tonery grasped the children's attention as she unfolded her series of books through her captivating storytelling. Marguerite enlisted the help of some audience members to act out some of the story. There are four books so far in the Kapheus series which are fantasy adventure stories set in the landscape of the Wild Atlantic Way. Marguerite gave the children a taste of each book but broke off at a pinnacle point leaving the children wanting more. All children received a bookmark and co-stars also got some beautiful cards. The bookmarks and cards all show the magical illustrations by David Wenzel who also illustrated The Hobbit. On Tuesday 5th March a team of 8 children from Ms. Lowe's class participated in an inter schools chess tournament. It was held in St. Kevin's GAA Hall in Staplestown. Team "Wizards of Chess" enjoyed the experience and were an excellent representation for Scoil An Linbh Iosa. A huge well done to all who participated! We had great fun celebrating the annual World Book Day event. We were very excited to celebrate our love of reading by dressing up in a famous book character. We presented our costumes along with the book to our class. We also did a catwalk of our outfits for the other third classes and we also wrote about our favourite books.
