Happy Mother’s Day to all the Super Mums out there from all the boys and girls in Ms Dunne’s class. Have a wonderful Mother’s Day 💐 The children have been working extremely hard to learn all about the Water Cycle. They put all their knowledge and skills to work to show how precipitation happens during this “Rain Cloud” experiment! Ms Dunne’s first class did a super job making a rainbow in a rain shower. They used oil pastels which were resistant to the water colours they used for the water! 🌈 🌧 Ms Dunne’s 1st class have been busy learning a Japanese paper technique called Notan, and having fun with print making to create these gorgeous pieces of art just in time for Valentine’s Day. I think you will agree that they turned our beautifully! Check out some of our photos below of what we have been getting up to since we started in First Class! Dia Daoibh! Welcome back to our Class Blog! This time, we'd like to show you snippets of activities we did throughout November and December. We hope you enjoy this blog. We have been working very well throughout our Gaeilge lessons every morning. We learned new songs and poems and vocabulary. Every Friday, Ms. Gaire chooses "Gaeilgeoir na Seachtaine" (the best Irish speaker of the week.) Sometimes she finds it very difficult to choose a winner as we all like to try our best. Please see the children chosen as "Gaeilgeoir na Seachtaine" in November and December below. As a class, we explored two Irish legends through History, Drama and Art- "The Children of Lir" and "Fionn and the Dragon." We really enjoyed the stories as they had elements of magic. We completed worksheets on the stories, took part in some Drama activities and created Art pieces in our class groups. Have a look at our super work below. We enjoyed working on various Maths topics over the two months. We really liked working on "Shapes" and "Patterns." Have a look at us in action by scrolling through the photographs below. If you walked into our classroom lately, you could have been mistaken for thinking you entered Santa's Workshop! We have been working like busy elves doing lovely Christmas activities. To kick-start the festive season, we put on Christmas music and danced and decorated our classroom. When the classroom was sprinkled with festive cheer, we began the rest of our Christmas activities. We created our own Christmas cards. They were sent to the printers and we received packs of our very own Christmas cards to write and send to our loved ones. They look brilliant! We drew lovely Christmas scenes in our Art Notebooks. We created beautiful Art pieces- Snowmen and Polar Bears. We also designed a Christmas jumper for Ryan Tubridy's appearance on the Toy Show. We created beautifully decorated Christmas trees. We played many festive games, learned new dances and took part in a Christmas yoga session. We know that Christmas is also a time for giving. As a class, we raised a lot of money for the Team Hope Christmas Shoe Box Appeal. It makes us so happy and proud knowing that we played a part in creating happiness and excitement in other children's lives this Christmas. We took part in our school's Christmas Jumper Day to help raise funds for our local St Vincent De Paul. We also helped raise money for the school's ALC classes by purchasing Christmas logs created by the children in those classes. They did an amazing job and we love the Christmas logs that now light up some of our window sills. We were busy learning new songs and dances over the past few weeks. Ms. Gaire recorded some of our fabulous performances for our Class Christmas Video. Ms. Gaire is delighted with our progress and great efforts so far in First Class. She ensured that we were rewarded with Play Time and we even had a visit to the School Playground. We had a great Christmas party together to mark the beginning of the Christmas holidays. We hope you have a fabulous Christmas break. Best wishes for the New Year! Nollaig Shona Daoibh! First Class have been getting into the Christmas spirit by making lots of festive art. They made fork painted Polar Bears as they had been learning lots of interesting facts about Polar Bears in Science. They also made some Snowmen, snow globes & hats/mittens to keep nice & toasty this Christmas! We had great fun getting our room ready for Christmas. We decorated our Christmas Tree, designed some Christmas windows and even took some sELFIEs! Ms Dunne's class were busy learning all about winter and how it effects plants and animals in Ireland. We decided to help our little birds in the gardens in school by making bird feeders. We were able to keep a close eye on them from our classroom & we saw lots of happy birds! Ms Dunne’s class take their maths very seriously. They had great fun learning the doubles while performing this rap! Hello everyone! Welcome to our Class Blog. We are excited to show you a few of the activities we did and topics we worked on throughout our first half term in First Class. We hope you enjoy our Class Blog and like the photographs and videos posted throughout. We spent the beginning of the school year getting to know each other and enjoying being reunited with close friends from Senior Infants and former friends from Junior Infants. We enjoyed Play Time together and a nice visit to the School Garden while getting to know each other. During the first week of school, we learned a short poem called "The Sky Is The Limit." This poem became our theme for the first fortnight. We created an Art Display outside our classroom. We made our own hot air balloons to show that we are soaring to great heights in First Class. We learned a song called "Up, Up, Up." We also created a Class Tree to show unity as a new class. We covered many topics under the 3 SESE subjects. A Science topic that we really enjoyed working on was "The Five Senses." We played many games to help consolidate our learning. We learned a song, completed a few activity sheets and created our own Mr. Potato Head with five senses. We did great Maths work in September and October. We focused mainly on Number work and Addition. We worked on the numbers up to 20. We created lovely pieces of Art over the past few weeks. We drew Self Portraits in our Art Notebooks. Ms. Gaire thought we all looked so fabulous and unique in our drawings. We read a story called "Dream Boat" and decided to create our own Dream Boats sailing on the sea. It involved drawing, painting and printing to create a reflection of the boat in the water. We were so pleased with our finished Art pieces. At the start of October, we wished our much loved Mrs. McIntyre a happy retirement. When Mrs. McIntrye visited our classroom, we recited a lovely poem called "Thank You Mrs. McIntyre." She loved the poem and was very touched by our performance for her. We gave her a gift and home-made cards to thank her for teaching us and to wish her well in her retirement. Every pupil in the school decorated a triangular piece of paper. We used these to create strings of bunting to hang around the school as personalised decorations for Mrs. McIntyre's last day in Scoil An Linbh Iosa. We are already looking forward to a visit from Mrs. McIntyre in the near future. We worked on the theme of "Autumn." We studied the seasonal changes that occur between Summer and Autumn. We learned a song called "Orange, Yellow, Red & Brown." At the Nature Table, we sorted pine cones, leaves and conkers into groups. We all created a lovely Art piece of a squirrel settling into a nest of leaves to hibernate. To create this piece, we used leaves & autumnal colours to do leaf rubbings to create the squirrel's bed of leaves. We coloured a template of a squirrel brown and cut it out. We placed the squirrel onto the bed of leaves and gave the squirrel a bushy tail by using many Autumn leaves. We learned a poem called "The Squirrel." Hayley gifted our class two great pumpkins that she grew. She explained the process of how she grew the pumpkins. We were so happy to have them in our classroom. We completed activity sheets based on the topic of Autumn. Have a look at the photographs and video below. We enjoyed celebrating "Halloween" together. On the week leading up to the Mid-Term Break, we completed various tasks and activities based on the theme of "Halloween." We learned about Halloween Traditions in History, created an Art piece called "Ghost At The Window," learned a Halloween song and learned a poem called "Knocking On My Door." At the Role Play Station, we created magic potions and invented magic spells. Some magic potions turned us into spiders, while other potions turned us into different creatures! Ms. Gaire was hoping that the magic potions wouldn't turn us into mice in her classroom! We also wrote our very own spooky Halloween stories. On Friday 22nd of October, we dressed up in amazing costumes. We showed off our costumes in the PE Hall when we had a Halloween Parade with the other First Classes. We had a party in our classroom where we played various games & had a dance party. Have a look at the photographs and video below. Ms. Gaire is so proud of us for being kind, friendly and hard working. She loves when we try our best at school. We earn marbles for our group jars and enjoy Play Time on Friday due to earning many marbles. We get a "petal" on the class flowers every time we do or achieve something great. We are working towards 12 petals to get our next Big Treat. We have a feeling that will be very soon! We will update you on our next ventures in November and December before Christmas. We will catch up again then! Slán!
