Book Club

Our book clubs meet to discuss books. They are open to readers from 3rd to 6th class. Books are chosen which may stretch the imagination but which will definitely fuel discussion. Most books read have been given a positive review. These books are now available in our school library for all to read.

We meet at 8.30 on Thursday mornings for 5/6 sessions, usually beginning mid October, and often running again during the second term. There is no fee for the club as the P.T.A. sponsors the books.

2018-2019
The Book Clubs are back in action at 8.30 on Thursday mornings. This term we are reading
The Boy at the top of the Mountain by John Boyne,
Ribblestrop by Andy Mulligan
Diamonds by Jacqueline Wilson
Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lingren
Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo
Over 60 pupils signed up to join our clubs. Well done to all!
Many thanks to the teachers who lead the clubs.

2017-2018
For the past six weeks, almost 50 children have been coming into school early to take part in the Book Club. Well done to everyone, especially on the cold, wet, frosty mornings. Our final club meeting finished with hot chocolate and a chat. Many thanks to the teachers who let the clubs - Mrs. Mc Intyre, Mr. O' Sullivan and Ms. Rogers, without whom there would be no book club. 20/12/2017
Last Wednesday, Debbie Thomas, children's author, visited our school and spoke to the early morning Book Club members. She was full of praise for the pupils after meeting them and reported they were very engaged, imaginative and interested. She also said that she felt very welcome in our school which is lovely to know. We got a present of three of her books for our library, and she took time to autograph Monkey Business at least 20 times! As a fun exercise, she gave lots of clues and the audience managed to work out her age. Let's hope she has inspired some of the group to become authors.

The visit was organised by Ms. Nolan and Mr. O'Sullivan attended the talk. 07/02/2018
Here are some of the books we read in the 2016/2017 school year:
