History Of Our SchoolScoil an Linbh Íosa, Prosperous developed over the centuries from disparate beginnings into the large modern school we have today. We know from state records that there was a recognised "Popish school" in the area in 1731. Survival through the Penal Laws was no mean feat so it should be of little wonder to us that in 1824, almost one hundred years later, one school at Healy’s Bridge and two in ‘Currahills’ are recorded.
Following the establishment of the National Education Board (Stanley’s Letter) the local Parish Priest applied for assistance from the Board and was recognised as manager of the school built beside the church in 1846. Coincidentally, the move across the road, to a new building with four classrooms, two toilets and cloakrooms, took place exactly one hundred years later (1946), when the amalgamated (1941) boys’ and girls’ schools needed room to expand. |

The old building is still in use today as the parish centre and it hosts many local meetings. By the early 1980’s, that new building was too small and an extension, including a general purpose room was added in 1984. At that time the school was named Scoil an Linbh Íosa.
Twenty years later, the extension added in 1984 proved inadequate to cater for the school-going population of the village and by the early part of this century the builders were on site again! The aesthetically fine building we have today, part funded by the parish, was formally opened by Bishop Moriarty in June 2007.
The school opened two Assisted Learning Classes in February 2001. Then, 2013 saw the start of further expansion to the school with work commencing on a brand new Assisted Learning Unit, which was opened in March 2014.
The current enrolment is 511 pupils.
