Choir
If 2016/ 2017 school year is anything to go by, 2017/2018 will also be a busy year for the choir of Scoil an Linbh Iosa.
New members are always welcome. We usually have our practices on Wednesday, 3:00 to 3:50. To make the practices more lively, we often include songs suggested by the children and encourage them to do some solo singing. Looking back at the 16/17 school year, there have been so many highlights. The main focus for the early part of the year were the Peace Proms, which is an all-Ireland event bringing together thousands of children from every part of the country, north and south, to sing in unison, backed by a cross-border orchestra, in a series of concerts. Our concert on Sunday February 5th was one of five which saw a choir of two thousand children entertain an audience of approximately ten thousand. It was an amazing experience for the children and for all the parents who attended on the night. The children went carol-singing in December to raise funds to cover some of the cost of transport to the Peace-Proms and a big thank-you to the PTA who covered the remainder. The choir also took part in the Christmas Concert and sang for the Confirmation and Communion ceremonies. We were especially proud of the children who gave up their Saturday to sing at not one, but two Communion ceremonies! Ms Hetherton treated all of the children to a hot chocolate in Space cafe the following week in recognition of their dedication. It has been a great pleasure to work with such a great group of children this year. |
