Our literacy programme in Second Class is known as ‘Zoom’. The children are individually tested twice a year, using the PM reading Kit, in a similar manner to ‘Lift Off’. They are then grouped according to their reading levels across all Second Classes.

There are four groups in a room. The class teacher and SEN teacher work on reading, using PM Readers, with one group each, while the other two groups do a PM Writing assignment. After fifteen minutes the teachers move to the groups that were writing and work on reading with them.Meanwhile the groups that were reading now do their PM Writing.

Every week, the children get the opportunity to read one book at their level. This book is brought home to be read for homework.
