What a week we had! We started our week with the annual 'Hit the Block'. This was followed on Tuesday by Junior Sports Day. On Wednesday we had novelty races and some great competition with the teachers. Thursday was the turn of the seniors for their sports day and the week ended on a high with a Danceathon. Check out our blog below for some highlights of an excellent week and the class blogs for photos of each class!
Monday
On Monday, we kicked off our Active Week in style with our 'Hit the Block'. The Junior end of the school led the way and the infants along with First & Second class ran around the village of Prosperous completing 2.5km together. After break, the senior end of the school tackled the 5km route, running around the village twice together. We saw a huge increase in everyone's fitness levels and it was wonderful to see the children pushing themselves to finish it as quickly as possible. Check out the photos below and see if you can spot any familiar faces!

After lunch we had an assembly to mark the victory of the our boys cross country team this year who won silver this year. Ms. Byrne spoke first about the Daily Mile and the wonderful initaitive it was this year. Mr. Geaney then spoke about the cross country boys and presented them with their medals. We're very proud of the boys on their tremendous victory and they should be proud of themselves also! Well done Billy, Josh, Ben, Corey, Calvin and Ryan!
Last part of the day was a basketball game in which our basketball teams were up against the teachers. A game between the teachers and students always becomes competitive and this was no different. Four quarters of high intensity playing and it was the teachers who ended up victorious in the end. A tough but enjoyable match for both the players and spectators alike!
Tuesday
On Tuesday, it was the turn of the Junior end of the school to have some fun. It was Junior Sports day so for infants all the way up to second class had a jam packed day of various sports. These sports included ground hockey, volleyball, soccer and parachute games to name but a few. These sports were organised and ran by Mr. Geaney's sixth class who did an excellent job! While the junior end of the school were busy, the senior end (3rd - 6th) went to the tennis courts to try their hand at tennis. Perhaps a new Serena Williams or Roger Federer may have started their new careers! Have a look below at the photos of the day:

Wednesday:
Wednesday saw the return of the much anticipated Novelty Races. Throughout the day the classes competed against each other in lots of fun and different novelty races. Some even had water thrown into the mix. There was great fun had by all on the yard and astro until lunch time. After lunch was the eagerly anticipated novelty races where the sixth class students took on the staff of the school. Going on last years experience, the staff knew this was going to be a tough task and it turned out to be even more difficult than first thought. Despite a few questionable interruptions during the races, the sixth class students ran out victors in the end.

It was the turn of the senior end of the school to take part in our jam packed sports day on Thursday. The children form third all the way to sixth class were treated to some excellent activities to keep them entertained. The activities consisted of tug o' war, tennis, volleyball, ground hockey and an obstacle course to name but a few. While the senior end of the school were busy with their sports day, the junior end of the school (infants - second class) were at the tennis courts across the road to try their hand at tennis. Friday:
The last day of our active week finished just as we started with great enthusiasm and we ended this wonderful week with an energy zapping Danceathon led by the talented Ms. Mahoney. The children followed Ms. Mahoney's lead for over an hour and pulled out their best moves to some classics like the YMCA and Saturday night fever. Baby shark even made an appearance! It was wonderful to end this fun-filled week under the rays of glorious sunshine with each and every child smiling and having a great time!
