Dominic Cogan, former teacher here at Scoil an Linbh Íosa and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Teacher is offering a free support service for parents during this challenging time.
This 45 minute weekly session has been set up to provide a listening ear for parents or guardians of children and teens. Being cooped up at home for an extended period has thrown up significant challenges to all of us parents and guardians, not to mention our children. These sessions are provided not so much to offer advice but to give people the space to share from the heart how they are managing. Each session begins and ends with a short mindfulness meditation to help stay grounded and feel supported. One of the benefits of a circle like this is to give people the experience of feeling the support of other parents and guardians and thus breaking the sense of isolation we may feel when we may be under stress. If people are open to it, we can also explore ways to use simple mindfulness practices to promote resilience.
