We have been very busy in the past number of weeks.
We gathered leaves and then went on the internet to research their names. We worked as scientists and tested foods to see if they were acids or alkaline. We used red cabbage juice for this. If the food or liquid turned red it was an acid and if it turned blue then it was alkaline. We painted masks and carved pumpkins for Halloween - Carving was great fun. We also made French toast although we are not too sure that Mrs Kavanagh is happy with us because we burnt one slice and set off the fire alarm. The whole school had to vacate their classes. Below are random photographs of some of the work we have been doing- We have been working as scientists and have been looking to see how much sugar in in different foods.
We looked at food packages and we also googled information. We were very surprised at the results. Here is what we found. Packet of Jaffa Cakes 65g of sugar Milky Bar 35g Red Bull 27g Dairy Milk 57g Capri Sun 20g Pepsi 41g Coke 35g Pop Corn 0.1g Packet of Wine Gums 122g We were very surprised that there was so much sugar in wine gums. We finished our projects on Prosperous and learnt a lot.
Here are some Prosperous facts. Robert Brook built Prosperous in 1780. He built it because he wanted to make lots of money by setting up a cotton industry. The first buildings were The Post Office and the buildings beside it. He also built Curry Hills House for his brother Thomas Brook and The Downings. He was a bad business man and the cotton industry failed. He moved to an island called St Helena and names a place after Prosperous. He died in 1811. The 1798 rebellion began in Prosperous. Ruth Hackett died that night. The first school in Prosperous was the Drama Hall. It was built in 1856. We are in lovely new classes. We moved into it in 2014. We love our new rooms Today we finger painted Autumn leaves. We have been learning a song called "The leaves on the trees" Sung to: The wheels on the bus The leaves on the trees turn orange and brown, orange and brown, orange and brown. The leaves on the trees turn orange and brown, all through the town. The leaves on the trees come swirling down, swirling down, swirling down. The leaves on the trees come swirling down, all through the town. The leaves on the ground go swish, swish, swish, swish, swish, swish. The leaves on the ground go swish, swish, swish, all through the town. After reading Goldilocks and the three bears we made porridge. We made salty porridge, sweet porridge and porridge that was just right! When we read Goldilocks and the three bears we noticed that Goldilocks left her handprints on the window. We decided to make our own handprints on our window.
