November in Ms. Casey's Class

17/12/2014

We LOVE reading. We read for 10 minutes every day during DEAR time (drop everything and read). We made our own bookmarks earlier in the year and we're getting great use out of them. Our bright, comfy owl-themed library encourages us to relax and lose ourselves in a great book.

Our author study for November was Roald Dahl. We liked reading his books because they were funny, quirky and different. Some of us are even hoping to get some for Christmas!
We participated in the Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal. The Communion and Confirmation classes partnered up to wrap and fill a shoebox with presents, activities and essentials for a little boy or girl from a underdeveloped country. We learned the names of the countries, located them on the map. We really enjoyed this as it made us feel really good to help a child the same age as ourselves, especially when we saw the video of the children receiving their presents last year. We know it means a lot to them.
To conclude our week on learning about data, we did an alternative maths lesson. We stood at the railing opposite the church and surveyed the traffic that passed. In pairs, we collected the data on mini whiteboards. Then back in the classroom, we represented the data in our copies and books, and we learned how to make a bar graph in excel on the laptops.
