Our Communion was a lovely day. The sun was shining and we all looked lovely in our special communion clothes. We also made some lovely artwork that was on display in the church.
Today we were learning about the phases of the moon and how the earth rotates around the sun and the moon rotates around the earth. We watched this video to help us understand. (We thought the song at the end was really silly, but some of us sang along anyway!) Then we used Oreo cookies to show the different phases of the moon. This is us at work. As you can see from our faces we found it really boring :) These are the moon phases we made with our Oreos. We had some fun practising our literacy skills with a few games. We know how to put words into alphabetical order, even when they start with the same letter, we can match singular and plural words and put together compound words. On Friday a few children from Miss Fisk's class got to try out the new kitchen! We decided that chocolate chip cookies would be a good start and best of all we'd be able to share them with the rest of the class. We started by writing down the recipe. We were all so quiet when we were writing as many of us wanted to make sure we got the recipe down so we could try it at home! Once we had the recipe down it was time to start! The first part of the recipe said to beat the sugar and butter together... but we only had one electric mixer! So some of us had to work harder at it than others! ;) The next part involved smashing up the chocolate for the chocolate chips. This was hard work but it was great fun! Then we sieved the flour so there were no lumps. You might have noticed that we forgot to add the egg but we remembered just in time to save the cookies! (We learnt a lesson here- make sure to read the recipe CAREFULLY!) When the dough was ready we used teaspoons to spoon them out carefully. We had to leave lots of space so that the cookies didn't spread into each other. Then we put them into the oven and waited patiently! ;) Once we brought them back to the classroom everybody loved them! Some of us wished we could just have one more.... If you want to try the recipe out you can download it here.
