The role play area taught us that the post office offers us lots of services. Aswel as buying envelopes & stamps and posting letters, we can pay bills, get useful forms for things like passports and currency exchange. We wrote letters and postcards to each other, learning how the basic format and how to write an address. Then we went to the role play post office, bought stamps and posted the letters and postcards. Every morning the post man or woman delivered the post to all the senior infants, much to all our excitement. With all this practice, we were able to write a letter to a friend or family member. We walked to the post office in Prosperous to post them. We looked at a variety of Irish stamps and used these as inspiration to design our own. Ms. Casey read us The Jolly Postman. In response, we made a map and matched the correct post to each character. We learned that letters and packages are sorted in four different centers in Ireland. We practiced sorting letters in different ways. We learned that packages are weighed to decide how much it will cost to post them. We practiced this using balances and marbles. These activities linked with our maths curriculum. We made our own post boxes so we can play post office at home. Comments are closed.
