Miss Carroll's Easter chicks

During art class before Easter we made some chicks. 

The process involved weaving wool through two donut-shaped pieces of cardboard until we couldn't see any piece of the card (the more times we wove the wool around, the fluffier our chick!!!). We then cut the wool all around, starting at the top (in between the pieces of card). After this we tied a piece of wool tightly around the middle to keep the pieces of wool together, creating a pom-pom. The next process was to personalise our chicks, cutting out feet and beaks from orange card and sticking them on with eyes.

What is the association between chicks and Easter?

Easter is a Christian festival. For Christians the custom of giving eggs at Easter celebrates new life. The first eggs given at Easter were bird eggs. These eggs were painted in bright colours to give them further meaning as a gift. This is probably where the association comes from-the chicken and the egg theory, chicks hatch from the eggs and the eggs come from chicks/hens.
