The children of fourth and fifth class had the pleasure of welcoming Olive Mooney to our school on Friday. Olive is a local, Irish writer who has published two books in the series 'The Chronicles of Cadaver College'. She gave an insightful account of her life as an author, the hard work it takes to write a book and her love of literature. She read some extracts from her book 'The book of Ornis' and allowed lots of opportunities for the children to ask some questions. A big thank you to Olive for coming to visit us at Scoil an Linbh Íosa!

Here's a quick look at some of the highlights of our Morning Movement activities.

Here in Scoil an Linbh Íosa, we are working towards an Active Flag. We have started an in-school initiative where the whole school moves for at least ten minutes a day, all at the same time. We have also introduced more activities on the yard.

Now we would like to invite all the children from infants to sixth class to take part in Let's Get Moving activities before school starts. These activities are led by staff members.

Children taking part should arrive in the yard at 8.45am. They will go straight to their classes at 9.05am after their exercise. These sessions will run every day, Monday to Friday for 4 weeks. 

The first session is Monday, May 22nd.

​Let's Get Prosperous moving!

Ms. Hetherton would like to express her gratitude to everyone for all the hard work that went into making Saturday's Holy Communion a success and a special time for the children and their families. It was a wonderful occasion.

The ceremonies went very well and the choir were brilliant. The entrance to the hallway and the hall itself looked so child friendly and inviting.

A special thanks to the teachers for their work in preparing the children. Thanks to Ms. McIntyre, Ms. Byrne and Ms. Cuniffe for the choir and a big thank you to the SNAs who transformed the hall area.

A very special thanks to Gerry for his work with pots, plants and people. The PTA were also wonderful.

A terrific job all round.

The girls basketball team, accompanied by their coaches Ms. Casey and Ms. Kiely, travelled to Scoil Uí Riada, Kilcock, for the Cumann na mBunscol blitz on Thursday (April 27th).

They played 4 matches in the group stage. They narrowly lost to Castledermot, followed by a win against Scoil na Naomh Uilig, Newbridge. They lost to hosts Scoil Uí Riada and drew facing Ardclough. Then followed an apprehensive few moments as points were counted. They were through to the semi-finals!

They faced old rivals Castledermot in what was a very close, tense match. It was all square at full time. Two sets of extra time had to be played to determine who would reach the final. Nerves were shot but Prosperous held their composure to come out on top winning narrowly by one basket in this exciting encounter!

They were up against Scoil Uí Riada in the final. They played very well and held their own for large periods of the match but this experienced team with a number of club players proved too good for Prosperous and were deserving winners.

Prosperous finish the season on a high, receiving silverware and doing their teachers and coaches proud!

Prior to our Easter Holidays, all the children from Junior Infants to Sixth Class took part in the national Spring Clean day. We decided to give a spring clean to our school grounds and our local village, Prosperous. Below are some photos of the enthusiastic children tidying up their local Environment. By the time all the teachers and children were finished, Prosperous was gleaming!  

The children of fifth and sixth class had the pleasure of receiving a visit from Ryan and Gerry of Human Rights Ireland today. Ryan spoke to the children about the very interest topic of Human Rights and gave them a wealth of information on the 30 Human Rights that each and everyone of us are entitled to. The children watched some videos, engaged in interesting discussion and has the opportunity to interview each other. Without a doubt, we have a new outlook on what Human Rights are and will strive to implement these rights in Scoil an Linbh Íosa to the best of our ability. Well done to 5th & 6th class boys/girls who took part in the soccer this year. Fair play for braving the cold and wet this afternoon to finish up our House League.

Our player of the year was Mark; who not only showed great skill but also great sportsmanship!

For the past two weeks, all the students have been busy celebrating Seachtain na Gaeilge. All the way from Junior Infants up to sixth class, all the children have been making a huge effort to speak Irish. The children from 4th, 5th and 6th also took part in a tráth na gcéist that was an enjoyable way of listening to and understanding Gaeilge. As Seachtain na Gaeilge drew to a close, every pupil gathered in the halla to celebrate with a céilí. The video below shows the fun that everyone had! Bain taitneamh as!

For the past number of weeks, the children of fifth and sixth class have been partaking in an in-house league. This consisted of a number of various teams playing a tournament in which they put all their soccer skills to good use. The children had the opportunity to play numerous games and earn points. The children have really enjoyed their games each week. A huge thank you to Ms. Dunne who has trained the children and ran this soccer league.
