Mrs Hetherton presented the 6th class children with hoodies on behalf of the PTA. Mrs Gilbert's class had a day of science experiments on Thursday which the children presented and demonstrated to their classmates. Mrs Gilbert's class collected and painted stones to leave in our school garden for the children in the school to see long after they have left. Ms. Wadding’s 6th class had a great few days outside enjoying the glorious sunshine. We cooled down with some ice pops and spent a lovely lesson in our school garden with a tour from our wonderful caretaker Gerry! We are definitely enjoying our last few weeks before our next journey to secondary school! Check out some of our activities from our sports day this week. We have great fun enjoying all things sporting and physical activities for the entire day! We got to go out to our fantastic school garden on the 21st of April to plant lupin seeds. The seeds were kindly donated by Nia Jenkins. Everyone planted one and last Wednesday we went to check on them and they have already sprouted well. We also got to plant 2 oak trees on the grass verge beside the yard, thanks to Gerry our caretaker and his wonderful guidance and knowledge. The children will then be able to see the trees grow when they drive past the school after they leave in June. Ms. Gilbert's 6th class spent a sunny afternoon in our school garden planting oak and birch trees under the careful guidance of our amazing school caretaker Gerry, who takes great care of our school garden and all the children. He showed the children how to plant the trees and the children got a chance to plant some trees of their own. These trees will stand in our school for years to come and will be a great legacy for the children to leave behind them. They also planted strawberry plants and we hope that they will have fruit for us to enjoy in June. We had a very busy Friday in Ms Wadding’s sixth class this week. We are currently learning about the 1916 Easter Rising and the aftermath which resulted in the War of Independence. We were extremely lucky that our own Emily Cullen was kindly allowed to bring in her Dad’s old medals from this historic time. We were fortunate to see replica medals from 1916, the War of Independence and also badges that were awarded to specific groups during this time such as Cumann and mBan and the Cork Brigade. The class were also super excited to watch the first part of the film ‘Michael Collins’ which we will be finishing next week. Ms. Gilbert's 6th class has been busy over the last few weeks in school. They have just completed their projects on Antarctica and Polar Exploration. They have been busy learning about 'The Easter Rising' in History. They have been learning about smoking in SPHE and they have recreated a few of the artist Banksy's pieces in Art. We would like to say huge congratulations to our very own Ruarí Fitzpatrick who won a medal in the Virtual Special Olympics competition this year! Everyone in 6th Class is so proud of you!

Our quote of the week is a special one - “What if I fall?” “Oh, but my darling, what if you fly?” Sending you all some positivity during these tough times :) Today was a very special day for Ms Wadding’s sixth class. We attended our very first virtual ‘Confirmation - Our Journey Begins in Hope’ Mass. Well done to everyone for putting in such a huge effort to become prepared for this special mass. It is a vital stepping stone in our Confirmation Journey. Well done everyone! Ms. Wadding’s sixth class having some Halloween fun last week.
