Peace Proms is a choral education program which impacts 20,000 primary school children in Ireland and Northern Ireland. The Peace Proms program came about through the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland (CBOI), which was established in 1995 as a peace initiative, and is composed of over 100 exceptionally talented young musicians from all over Ireland – north and south.
Over the past 20 years, the CBOI has played an important role in building and nurturing vital cross border and cross community relations. The CBOI also plays a vital role in enhancing Music and Arts Education in Ireland and beyond through their Peace Proms program.
The audience was exposed to a variety of musical genres from classical to movie sound tracks which included a Star Wars medley where the children were treated to an appearance from the characters themselves!
Huge thanks to Principal Geraldine Hetherton and staff members Jane O’Rourke, Yvonne Mahoney, Bernadette Mynes, Anne McIntyre and Patricia Harte for attending. Thanks also to the PTA who funded the bus to transport the children to this magnificent event. It was a wonderful opportunity and one which we’re sure will remain in their memories for years to come.
