Author visit to Ms. Lowe's class

18/6/2018

We were delighted to have the opportunity to enjoy a visit from Newbridge author Padraig Kenny. Padraig spoke to the class about his new book 'Tin' as well as answering questions related to being an author. He also treated us to an exclusive first reading of an extract from his next book. He signed our copies of his book and even came to our room to see our new born chicks!  Thank you again to Padraig, we really enjoyed your visit  and look forward to reading your next book!

Ms. Lowe's Green Fingered Class

13/6/2018

We planted broad beans at the beginning of May. We also carried out an investigation on what a seed requires to grow. After identifying the needs -air, water and light, we designed our investigation and made predictions. The only seed that grew was the one without light. It was white instead of green though! Our seeds grew very fast and we re- planted them to bring them home at the beginning of June.

Third Class School Tour

13/6/2018

All the 3rd classes and Ms.Byrne's class went to Causey Farm in Meath for our school tour. We had a very busy day from the minute we arrived. We met the locals (horses, donkeys, dogs, pigs,  to name a few), made giant bubbles,  crawled through tunnels and of course went bog jumping. We returned home tired and very dirty but with many memories of an amazing day.

Our Class Incubator - Ms. Lowe's Class

13/6/2018

A kind parent has given Ms. Lowe's class an incubator with 12 eggs. The incubator turns the eggs every few hours much to the delight of the class. The parent has visited the class each week to check on progress. The class have had the  opportunity each week to see inside an egg using a microscope. It is truly amazing to see how the chick is developing each week. The eggs are due to hatch this week. Our only hope is that we are in school when it happens.

Our Eggs Hatching:

Hatching day started immediately with the sound of cracking eggshells and faint chirping. Our Gaeilge lesson livened up at 10:45 when a beak was spotted. Work was quickly abandoned so we could witness a truly amazing sight.  Throughout the day, other chicks continued to hatch. At 4:30 pm this afternoon the chick count stood at 6!
**Update**
11 healthy Chicks greeted us on Friday morning to everyone's delight!

The History of Prosperous - Ms. Lowe's Class

13/6/2018

3rd and 4th classes enjoyed a great presentation from Mario about the Battle of Prosperous. We were also privileged to hear Darren sing a song from 1798. In the afternoon, we followed a history trail around the village.
