Dia dhaoibh! Welcome to our first Class Blog of the school year. We are delighted to show you some of the activities we did and topics we worked on throughout the first two months in First Class. Please scroll down to read our blog and scroll across to view the photographs and videos. Enjoy! Here are some lovely photographs of our class. Some photos include our teacher Ms. Gaire and class SNA’S Natalie and John. We enjoyed making new friends in early September. During the first week of school, we learned a short poem called "The Sky Is The Limit." This poem has become our motto for this school year. We made hot air balloons with our names on them to show that we are soaring to great heights in First Class. We created an Art Display of colourful hot air balloons. Ms. Gaire displayed our fantastic work outside our classroom. We learned a song called "Up, Up, Up" and this suited our theme nicely. We covered many topics under the 3 SESE subjects. A Science topic that we particularly enjoyed working on was "Growing Up." We had many discussions and played games to help consolidate our learning. We created lovely pieces of Art over the past few weeks. We drew Self Portraits. Ms. Gaire thought we all looked fabulous and unique in our drawings. We made lovely owls in the month of October. We worked on the theme of "Autumn." In Science and Geography, we studied the seasonal changes that occur between Summer and Autumn. At the Nature Table, we sorted pine cones, leaves, acorns, conkers etc into groups. We created a lovely Art piece of a tree in Autumn. We completed activity sheets based on the topic of Autumn. We learned a song called “Orange, Yellow, Red and Brown” and we learned a poem called "The Squirrel." Have a look at the photographs and the performance of the poem below. We took part in European Code Week at school. We used the “Scratch Junior” app to do a Coding Activity. We created a code to enable a car to drive along a busy street. It was very interesting and exciting taking part in a Coding lesson. We look forward to many more Coding lessons throughout the school year. “Maths Week” was celebrated in our classroom. We played Maths games based on addition, we created patterns, we made pictures using 2d shapes and we constructed buildings using 3d shapes. We have been working hard on the numbers 10-20 over the past few weeks. We had a few exciting events over the past few weeks. In October, we attended a Cake Sale in school where we bought yummy buns, muffins and treats. We had a visit from the Éire Óg Corra Choill Minor Hurling Team. We got our photograph taken with the successful team. On Jersey Day, we wore our favourite jerseys and raised money for the charity “Goal.” We had lots of fun celebrating Halloween together. On the lead up to the Mid-Term Break, we completed various tasks and activities based on the theme of "Halloween." We learned about Halloween Traditions in History and created an Art piece called "Ghost At The Window." At the Role Play Station, we created magic potions and invented magic spells. Many impressive potions were made. A potion that was a great success was the “the giggling potion!” The classroom erupted with laughter after a small sip of that potion. On Friday 27th of October, we dressed up in spooooooky costumes. We went on a “Witch & Wizard Walk” around the village to show off our brilliant costumes. We learned a Halloween song called “Winnie the Witch.” Have a look at the photographs and video below. We enjoy learning new Irish songs and poems. Have a look at two of our performances below. Ms. Gaire, John and Natalie are so proud of us for being caring and friendly and for being diligent workers. When we have great success or when we reach an amazing milestone, Ms. Gaire rewards us with another “petal” for our class flowers. We celebrated earning our first 5 petals with a Class Party. We are working towards 10 petals for our next celebration. One week, our class won the “best line” by lining up nicely, neatly and quietly throughout a full week. We were rewarded with extra Play Time on the Astro. We are determined to continue working well throughout the remainder of this schoool term. We will update you on our next ventures in November and December before Christmas. We will be busy preparing for our Christmas Concert, but we promise to update you all again soon! Slán go fóill!
