Today Ryan came to teach us how to make Rocket Balloons. It was great fun. First we got into small groups and we blew up a balloon. We twisted the end and secured it with a clothes peg. Then we decorated the balloons with markers. Next we stuck a straight straw to the side of our balloon with sellotape and threaded through a length of fishing line. We discovered that fishing line is more effective than string because it's slippy. Then we got down to some racing. We had some visiting children from Third Class who managed to beat all the Fifth Class teams with their rocket balloon. There are some very serious scientists in Ms. Kiely's class. For Science Week, Ms. Mahoney signed 5th Class up for I'm a Scientist Get Me Out of Here, which is a special programme where Ph.D. students enter a live webchat with primary students to answer some of our most pressing questions. We got answers to questions like "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" and lots of very useful information for our Mini Scientist projects. It was great fun and we learnt a lot.
