November & December in Ms. Gaire's First Class

21/12/2021

Dia Daoibh! Welcome back to our Class Blog! This time, we'd like to show you snippets of activities we did throughout November and December. We hope you enjoy this blog.

We have been working very well throughout our Gaeilge lessons every morning. We learned new songs and poems and vocabulary. Every Friday, Ms. Gaire chooses "Gaeilgeoir na Seachtaine" (the best Irish speaker of the week.) Sometimes she finds it very difficult to choose a winner as we all like to try our best. Please see the children chosen as "Gaeilgeoir na Seachtaine" in November and December below.
As a class, we explored two Irish legends through History, Drama and Art- "The Children of Lir" and "Fionn and the Dragon." We really enjoyed the stories as they had elements of magic. We completed worksheets on the stories, took part in some Drama activities and created Art pieces in our class groups. Have a look at our super work below.
We enjoyed working on various Maths topics over the two months. We really liked working on "Shapes" and "Patterns." Have a look at us in action by scrolling through the photographs below.
If you walked into our classroom lately, you could have been mistaken for thinking you entered Santa's Workshop! We have been working like busy elves doing lovely Christmas activities. To kick-start the festive season, we put on Christmas music and danced and decorated our classroom. When the classroom was sprinkled with festive cheer, we began the rest of our Christmas activities. We created our own Christmas cards. They were sent to the printers and we received packs of our very own Christmas cards to write and send to our loved ones. They look brilliant! We drew lovely Christmas scenes in our Art Notebooks. We created beautiful Art pieces- Snowmen and Polar Bears. We also designed a Christmas jumper for Ryan Tubridy's appearance on the Toy Show. We created beautifully decorated Christmas trees. We played many festive games, learned new dances and took part in a Christmas yoga session.
We know that Christmas is also a time for giving. As a class, we raised a lot of money for the Team Hope Christmas Shoe Box Appeal. It makes us so happy and proud knowing that we played a part in creating happiness and excitement in other children's lives this Christmas. We took part in our school's Christmas Jumper Day to help raise funds for our local St Vincent De Paul. We also helped raise money for the school's ALC classes by purchasing Christmas logs created by the children in those classes. They did an amazing job and we love the Christmas logs that now light up some of our window sills.
We were busy learning new songs and dances over the past few weeks. Ms. Gaire recorded some of our fabulous performances for our Class Christmas Video.

Ms. Gaire is delighted with our progress and great efforts so far in First Class. She ensured that we were rewarded with Play Time and we even had a visit to the School Playground. We had a great Christmas party together to mark the beginning of the Christmas holidays.

We hope you have a fabulous Christmas break. Best wishes for the New Year!
Nollaig Shona Daoibh!
